Frequently Asked Questions
Why is position sizing important in trading?
Position sizing is the single most critical factor in risk management. It ensures that no single trade can cause catastrophic damage to your account. If your risk per trade is capped at 1%, you would theoretically need 100 consecutive losing trades to completely wipe out your account capital.
How does the Futures & Options lot calculation work?
For Futures and Options, trading is restricted to standard contract lot sizes (e.g., Nifty is 65, Bank Nifty is 30 from the January 2026 NSE revision). The calculator calculates the raw maximum share quantity based on your risk rules, then divides it by your specified lot size, rounding down to output the exact number of lots to buy.
What does the unutilized capital output mean?
Since F&O trading requires buying in fixed lots, you cannot purchase fractional lots. The 'Unutilized Capital' displays the portion of your account capital that remains unallocated after buying the suggested whole number of lots.
What does the leverage/margin warning indicate?
If the total position value of your shares exceeds your total account capital, it means the trade requires leverage (margin) to execute. The calculator assumes a cash-equivalent exposure and doesn't calculate exact broker SPAN or exposure margin requirements.
